(I asked everyone to close their eyes & keep them closed.)
“I want you all, to think back- of your beginnings.
Think back at the path you took to get here.
The endeavors that define who you are today.
You are all here today-
because you believe in something.
I am here today to tell you-
that your beliefs are true.
If you open your eyes & look around.
We exemplify the true meaning of art & community.
My belief is that, to harvest & conduct tangible change,
Overturn & solve a heavy urban stigma,
We must reach the core of socio-psychology that deters
People of their great capabilities.
I am proof.
After seeing more of the world,
Weeks of a devoted vow of silence,
constant reflection of my conscience.
Testing my thesis worldwide of art being a tool of social healing.
I came to a succinct conclusion.
We are a rare breed of Golden Thinkers.
The photos that hang (sixth sense) before us is the tying bond
For every person in this room.
It is an honor & privilege to work
with such a devoted photographer, Chris Beale;
moreover, to exhibit in Jane Kim’s office
amongst her infinitely Vibrant staff.
We convene & rejoice
Because of art & my
soul is forever humbled.
But-
We must not lose ourselves
in celebration.
It is symbolic for me
To narrate my neighborhood
to remind our elected officials
of the communities they serve.
As for me,
My work is with the people.
6th Street.
You are all here today,
Because you believe in something.
And-
Your beliefs are true.”
